Research shows that eBooks now sell much more on Amazon than the physical books. Especially because of this coronavirus pandemic, which made most people prefer to do things online. In less than five years, eBooks have reached a multi-billion dollar industry. That has really changed a lot about how we read books. Step 1: Generate bestselling ideas for your book

This is the first step in your book writing process. You need to do thorough research for your book idea. What are people discussing?  What problems are people actively looking for how to solve?  How can you solve those problems in your book?  These are a few questions that can help you generate bestselling book ideas.  Let the following tips guide you when doing your research:

  • Google: You can use Google to research for your book ideas. Just type your keywords in the search bar. After it has finished loading, scroll to the bottom and find out other related searches performed by people. This will give you a hint on the kinds of questions people are asking, and that will give you an idea on what to write about.

  • Do Your Research On Amazon: You can research for your book idea on Amazon. Find out what people are most interested in from the bestseller lists in the genre you want to write on. Read the book blurbs of some books in the bestseller list. What do they have in common? Find out why readers are interested in those books. Also, read some customer reviews. Find out what people are looking for in a book. These will give you an idea of the problems people are actively seeking to solve. Then look for how your book can offer something different.

  • Ask your audience: This is a great way to research for your non-fiction book idea because you’re interacting with your target audience and you’re asking them what their pain points are. So they will give you first-hand information on what their problems are. Then you can proffer solutions to their problems in your book.

Step 2: Research

I cannot overemphasize the importance of this step. Once you’re able to come up with an idea for your book, the next step is to do your research.

  • Personally, I recommend you read at least five books on the genre you want to write about. This will help you know what people have written before, so you can find the topic they didn’t cover, which you can cover in your own book. Then make Google your friend. You can do your research on Google to find out facts, figures and statistics. This will help in your book writing.

  • Create your reader Avatar. This is basically a brief description of your target readers. It helps you to better understand your target audience. This is very vital for marketing purposes. The more your book can cater to this constructed personality, the easier it will be to sell your book. What are the pain points? How will your book help them solve those problems?

  • Find out how much your competitors charge. This will help you to determine the price of your book.

Step 3: Create Your Outline

If you’re a fiction writer, you may decide not to create an outline, but if you are writing a nonfiction book, then you need to learn how to write a book outline for nonfiction. This is so important. A book outline is a skeletal framework of what your book is all about. It will almost look like a table of content after creating your outline. Here is a quick way to create an outline for your book:

  • Write all the ideas you want to include in your book.
  • Group similar ideas together.
  • Then organise your groups into chapters.

Step 4: Writing

This is the stage where you do the actual writing. This step should be very easy because you have a detailed outline of the entire book Project. The following tips should guide you as you write:

  • Solve a problem in your book.
  • Don’t edit as you write. This is one of the common mistakes that first-time writers make. Editing your work while writing can stop your creative juices from flowing. Just keep writing until you complete your first draft, then go back and edit.
  • Let your book have a central theme. This is so vital because it will give you direction as you write and make your book flow in chronological order.

Step 5: Editing

Writing a book is the simple part. The harder part is editing your manuscript. The following should guide you when editing your book:

  • Edit ruthlessly: Be as objective as possible. Cut out the fluffs. Remove ambiguous words, make sure your manuscript flows in chronological order.
  • Check grammar and spelling: Watch out for wrong grammar and spelling errors and make necessary corrections.
  • Cut off unnecessary sentences: Some sentences may appear ambiguous, cut them off and replace them with simpler sentences.

Have a friend proofread your book. Let your friend look for typos and grammatical errors you may have missed. If they love you, they’ll even spot sentences that lack context or just plain make little sense. Make the corrections where required and congrats, you’re done with your eBook writing.

Step 7: Design Your Book Cover And Get Published

Welcome to the last stage in the book publishing process, I’m so glad you made it to the last stage. This last stage will determine to a great extent on how well your book will sell, so take this stage seriously. Before now, you must have gotten both your book title and subtitle ready.

Write down what the book is all about. What is the central theme of the entire book? Using this information, generate ten different titles for your book. Then choose the one that best describes the central theme of the book. Great! You have come up with an attention-grabbing book title.

While a book title tells you what the book is all about, the subtitle tells you how the book will be of benefit to your potential readers. Make it specific. It should clearly state the precise benefits readers will receive from your book.

Getting your book cover right can make an enormous difference in sales. The right cover can make the difference between a book that sells, and one that falls flat.

I would recommend spending a few dollars when creating your book cover. You can get a professional book cover for just $5 on Fiverr. The site lets you review designers’ portfolios and see ratings left by other clients before committing to a designer.

As always, you can design your book cover by yourself. You can get free stock images on Pexels, Unsplash, Pixabay et cetera. You can use online free tools like Canva and Adazing.com to design your book cover. Although they have the paid version, their free version can get you started and you can create stunning designs using the free version. You can use a book cover design template to design it faster. If you are not good at design, then I suggest you work with a professional graphic designer to avoid creating a cover that looks hopelessly amateur! Enlist a friend with an expert eye for design. Let the following tips guide you during your book cover design:

  •       Use a big, clear font for the title of your book.
  •       Consider having a subtitle in a smaller font.
  •       Stick to just two or three colours.
  •       Use a captivating cover image.
  •       Come up with a few designs or layouts and pick the one you like best.

Congratulations, you are now a proud owner of your own book, get published now and begin your journey to massive sales success.
